Frequently Asked Questions
Common questions about getting help from Cambridge Online.
Do I need to book or can I just turn up?
Most of our drop-in sessions are completely free and no booking is needed — just turn up and a friendly volunteer will help you. A handful of venues prefer you book in advance; check the relevant location page for details. If you’d prefer a specific time, you can call us on 01223 800450.
Is it really free?
Yes — everything we do is completely free. Cambridge Online is a registered charity dedicated to reducing digital exclusion, funded by grants and donations. We never charge for our support, devices, or data.
What if I’ve never used a computer before?
That’s exactly who we’re here for. You don’t need any prior experience — we’ll start wherever you are, work at your pace, and keep things jargon-free. Many of our learners arrive having never switched a device on.
Do I need to bring my own device?
If you have a laptop, tablet, or smartphone you’d like help with, please bring it along. If you don’t have a device, that’s fine too — we have computers available at our sessions, and you may also be eligible for a free refurbished device of your own.
Can someone come with me?
Of course. You’re welcome to bring a friend, family member, or carer to any session.
