OASI Project
Older Adults & Social Isolation
Using digital skills and technology to combat loneliness among older adults across Cambridgeshire.
Tackling Loneliness Through Technology
The OASI project supports older adults who are at risk of social isolation. For many, the digital world feels out of reach — and with it, the ability to video call family, book GP appointments, shop online, or simply feel connected to the world around them.
We provide free devices, patient one-to-one digital skills training, and ongoing support. Our trained volunteers visit residential homes, sheltered housing, and community venues to work with older people at their own pace, building confidence and independence.
Every person we help gains more than digital skills — they gain a lifeline to the people and services that matter most to them.

Making a Difference Where It Matters
Social isolation is one of the biggest challenges facing older adults in the UK. Many live alone, have limited mobility, or have lost a partner. Without digital skills, everyday tasks that many take for granted become impossible.
The OASI project reaches people in residential care homes, sheltered housing, and the wider community. We work with local authorities, housing associations, GP surgeries, and care providers to identify those who would benefit most.
For many participants, learning to make a video call to a grandchild or browse family photos online is genuinely life-changing. It is about connection, dignity, and independence.
Who Can Be Referred
Care Home Residents
People living in residential or nursing homes across Cambridgeshire
Sheltered Housing Tenants
Older adults in supported living who want to learn digital skills
Housebound Individuals
People unable to attend walk-in sessions due to mobility or health
Socially Isolated Adults
Anyone over 65 who is at risk of loneliness and lacks digital access
Learning to video call my daughter in Australia has changed my life. I see her face every week now instead of just hearing her voice. I did not think I could ever use a tablet, but the volunteer was so patient with me.

Frequently Asked Questions
How do I refer someone to the OASI project?
You can refer someone by contacting us directly or by calling our helpline on 01223 800450. Referrals can come from family members, care home staff, GPs, social workers, or the individual themselves. We will arrange an initial visit to assess their needs and find the best way to help.
Do participants need any previous experience with technology?
Not at all. The OASI project is specifically designed for people who have never used a tablet, smartphone, or computer before. Our volunteers are trained to be patient, encouraging, and to work at each person’s own pace. We start with the absolute basics and build from there.
Is the OASI project completely free?
Yes, everything is completely free. Participants receive a free device, free training sessions, and ongoing support at no cost. The project is funded through grants and donations, so there is never any charge to the people we help. You can support the project by making a donation or volunteering your time.
